Social Responsibility in the Information Age

Humans today cannot escape the use of information technology. Everyone must have held their own gadget. In every place and time, such as in a train or waiting for a bus at a definite stop that is done by most people today is busy with their respective cellphones. This shifts the position of books, newspapers, and magazines as information delivery media that were previously the priority of people. The existence of gadgets is more perfect because it provides many features and applications that satisfy users. However, is the gadget really used to find and read information? The fact is not all of them do that. The majority of today's people are even more interested in opening social media and reading posts or tricks from social media.
In a world like this, the global community is influenced by the flow of information spread on the internet, especially social media. The social responsibility for the degree to which humans respond to all information that enters. The response is in the form of trust or not, when the person is spreading information, and the purpose of the information dissemination. The rise of hoaxes at this time has succeeded in making the virtual world seizure. Not only hoaxes, but various provocations and utterances of hatred also spread everywhere in any social media. Humans are pitted to argue with each other and blame and justify themselves, this has a very serious impact on the mental social community such as emotional and ethical. These ethics in social media are indispensable in fulfilling social responsibility in the information age. The community should filter out all forms of information obtained, do not immediately believe let alone spread, find out whether the source is credible or not.
Various kinds of utterances of hatred (provocation) are also no less acute in today's cyberspace. The emergence of provocations has succeeded in making people who are subjected to stress provocation sometimes, because it gets a lot of pressure and insults and slander from other social media users so that it impacts on their personal lives. This is mostly felt by public figures such as artists and political figures. Because their opinions on social media have an influence on their followers so that even if a little mistake occurs it will be immediately invaded by many netizens. Social responsibility on social media in this case is truly alarming. The reason, many people do not know the limits in criticizing someone, even tend to blaspheme to disturb the comfort of others. People should understand good ethics in giving opinions on social media so as not to disturb others in social media too.
In order to counteract the rampant negative impacts of social media use and in order to fulfill social responsibility in this information era, the Indonesian government enacts the ITE Law (Information and Electronic Transaction Law), in which every form of crime in the internet (internet and social media) will followed up by the authorities and will be punished according to the applicable rules. With the existence of the ITE Law, it is quite effective in eradicating negative things in the delivery of information on the internet. Such is the explanation of social responsibility in the information age.
